When you decide that 50 years old is the beginning of a new life.
In 2013 I met this amazing woman at Skydive Baltimore and she had no idea what she was getting into.
Long story short, in 2015 we got married in Maui, HI and two weeks later we found out she was pregnant. Dana is a busy NASA Scientist and very focused on her career. She's never been married and never had a baby, that is, before Marceeeelo. Between work and normal life Dana always found time to train and race triathlons. Early on Dana introduced me to the world of triathlon, always talking about her upcoming races and training. I always told her she was crazy for putting herself through so much, but in October 2014 I saw something that changed my mind. It was at the Ironman Maryland finish line waiting for her to finish her race. I saw all kinds of people, from early 20's to a 70 years old racing, overweight people, disabled people, a blind guy, and a lot around my own age. They were all suffering and struggling to finish, but they had that amazing smile and the contagious feeling that made me drop tears as I was smiling and applauding them. That moment I will have in my memory forever. I was out of shape, overweight, and could not run around the block without feeling terribly tired. I last swam and cycled when I was kid, and last time I was physically fit was in the military. She forced me to go on a short run with her, despite my objections. All I could think of was how amazing those Ironman finishers were and that got me to the finish of that very first run. Three years later, I can tell you that I've gotten to experience that amazing feeling of crossing that finish line 11 times. I AM AN IRONMAN.
